What is A Series of Notes?

A Series of Notes is a continuation of my earlier column, called simply John’s Newsletter. I wrote about whatever I felt like writing about. It was inconsistent in its subject matter and sporadic in its scheduling. After a while, I noticed that I was writing about music more and more often. It felt more substantial. I decided to pursue music writing. It’s a subject that has interested me my whole life. I should make it more regular, too. Monthly! I would write and self-publish the column monthly. So, that’s what I’m doing.

The title, A Series of Notes, refers to a simple definition of what music is. This simple definition leaves out the ocean of rhythms that would provide an alternate exploration of music and how it arose. I like the double meaning of my chosen title, though. It is also a series of notes from me to my readers.

As I continued writing it, I recognized its value as a good community-building tool. If you enjoy it, hit the share button. Share it with anyone you think might enjoy it. I’m trying to build readership. You can look in the Archives to see all my previous columns.

What’s in it for you?

Brain food, and reading material. Plus you’ll get to read something original rather than the recycled content we see so much of. If you enjoy good writing, hopefully, you’ll find some here.

I like to write about music, especially blues music. My focus is on early blues but I also enjoy writing about current live music and the music I grew up on in the mid-to-late nineteen sixties.
